These prototype contact lenses will allow the wearer to view a "heads up" display directly in front of their eyes, rather than at a near-field distance currently seen in automobile windshields, cockpits, etc.

 The technology is currently being developed under DARPA funding, and a consumer version will be ready in two or three years.
