Mock Mars Mission Will Test the Stresses of Living on the Red Planet

Taking place in the Arctic, this one year $1 million mock mission will begin in July 2014.

The goal is to more closely simulate a real Mars expedition than what has been done in the past. The crew will conduct science research experiments, and perform maintenance tasks on their equipment and habitat. And out of all this will come data as to how people can mentally handle this isolated experience.

A Possible Cure for Jet Lag – "Re-Timer" Wearable Glasses

For many years now, I have been researching circadian rhythms (our 24 hour “internal clock”), and the affects on the human body when this cycle is disturbed.

The “Re-Timer” device — which emits a soft green light – seems promising for travelers encountering jet lag, and for people who live in the northern countries where there is minimal exposure to sunlight in the winter months.

Stone Age Movie Makers

In the summer of 2012, an intriguing theory has been proposed and published which explains why there are multiple limbs and heads on some of the animals depicted in the cave drawings in Lascaux, France.

The goal of these prehistoric artists was to depict animated movements — "retinal persistence". When the paintings are viewed by the flickering torchlight, the animation effect becomes prominent.

This is an incredibly high-resolution image of the Earth, as captured by one of NASA's satellites on January 4, 2012.

The satellite was recently re-named to "Suomi NPP", in honor of the late meteorologist Verner E. Suomi, a scientist hailed as the father of satellite meteorology.
